BRITAIN’S TV REGULATOR RAPS CHANNEL FOR UNSUITABLE SEXY AD

Britain’s Channel 4 was taken to task by OFCOM, the country’s broadcast regulator, for airing a humorous, steamy ad immediately following a rape scene in the movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last December. “The effect was to cut from the face of the screaming woman in the film’s rape scene to the face of the woman in bed in the sponsorship credit,” the regulator said, noting that the juxtaposition of the two scenes violated the U.K. Code of Broadcast Advertising, which requires that “the context in which an advertisement is likely to be broadcast must be taken into account to avoid unsuitable scheduling.” Channel 4 has apologized and said that it is “looking into ways to ensure that situations like this do not occur again in the future.”
