PARAMOUNT OFFERS 2-FOR-1 BILL: STAR TREK, WORLD WAR Z

There was a time when the “double bill” was commonplace at second-run theaters around the country. But with the advent of the multiplex, those theaters have largely disappeared, and few of those that still exist give patrons the opportunity to see two movies for the price of one. But on Friday, Paramount is bringing back the double bill to first-run theaters across the country as it offers Star Trek Into Darkness and World War Z over the Labor Day weekend, the slowest holiday weekend of the year for theaters. The two films, whose total length is 239 minutes, are scheduled for a one-week run. Both films had huge budgets of just under $200 million but both performed solidly. The Star Trek sequel has earned $459 million worldwide and World War Z $526 million.
