Siri, or one of her relatives, may be coming to your television set — if it’s attached to a DirecTV DVR. The satellite TV company announced on Wednesday that it will launch new technology early next month that will allow anyone with a smartphone to speak commands or ask questions to the DirecTV program guide. For example, it said, users will simply ask “What comedies are on now?” and promptly receive a list of those comedies, without having to scroll through the entire list of programs that are currently on the air. The voice-recognition service is due to roll out beginning Oct. 3 and, according to Advertising Age magazine, will be supported by a $30-40-million advertising campaign and run through the holiday season.
