WIKILEAKS BLASTS MOVIE ABOUT IT

WikiLeaks on Thursday leaked what it said was a “mature version” of the script for The Fifth Estate, the DreamWorks’ movie about it that is due to be released by Disney in the U.S. on Oct. 18. At the same time, it released a 4,000-word critique of the film, describing it as “irresponsible, counterproductive and harmful.” Separately, on Twitter it summed up its reaction to the movie this way: “As WikiLeaks was never consulted about the DreamWorks/Disney film on us, we’ve given our advice for free: It’s bad.” In particular, it challenges the script’s alleged implication that the release of the WikiLeaks documents exposed and placed in danger more than 2,000 informants. The film, it said, is “a work of fiction masquerading as fact,” the WikiLeaks document said. “Most of the events depicted never happened, or the people shown were not involved in them.” Last January, Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks architect who is portrayed in the movie by Benedict Cumberbatch, called the movie part of a “massive propaganda attack” against him.
