The 50th anniversary episode of the BBC’s Doctor Who attracted 2.4 million viewers on BBC America Saturday, despite being broadcast at 2:50 in the afternoon on the East Coast and 11:50 in the morning on the West Coast. Another 1.1 million viewers watched the 75-minute episode, titled “The Day of the Doctor,” in Canada on the Space Channel, the largest audience for any program on Space in its history. It has previously been reported that 10.2 million viewers watched the show in the U.K. A 3D screening at 440 movie theaters in the U.K. earned $2.91 million. Simulcast screenings in the U.S. brought in just $204,000, due largely to the early hours. A pre- and post-show feature was also streamed on YouTube internationally.
