China’s satellite TV stations will be required to broadcast at least one half-hour-long documentary daily under new guidelines by the State General Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, the state-run China Daily reported today (Friday). Gao Changli, a spokesperson for the agency, told the newspaper that the move was aimed at stimulating the documentary film industry while meeting the need of the domestic audience. His remarks were made at the conclusion Thursday of the four-day Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, where, according to the newspaper, 2,071 documentaries from 72 countries and regions were screened.
