Sending home the message that you don’t need great acting chops to attract paying customers to your movies, Forbes magazine reported on Monday that the top-grossing actor of 2013 was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The four movies in which he appeared this year, including Fast & Furious 6 and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, brought in $1.3 billion at the global box office, according to Forbes‘s tally. No 2 on its list with $1.2 billion was Robert Downey Jr. (arguably a far better actor) — landing there with only one film out this year, Iron Man 3. Third on the list was Steve Carell, with three films out this year, topped by Despicable Me 2 with $919 million. Vin Diesel took fourth place with $887 million for the year, Fast & Furious 6 accounting for $789 million of that amount. Rounding out the top five was Sandra Bullock, thanks to Gravity with $642 million worldwide and The Heat with $230 million.
