The Cannes Film Festival announced today (Tuesday) that New Zealand director Jane Campion, who won the festival’s top Palme d’Or prize in 1993, will preside over this year’s jury. In a statement, she said that she first came to Cannes in 1986 and has watched it “from many sides” since. She added that her admiration for this queen of film festivals has only grown larger. At the Cannes Film Festival they manage to combine and celebrate the glamor of the industry, the stars, the parties, the beaches, the business, while rigorously maintaining the festival’s seriousness about the art and excellence of new world cinema.” The 67th festival opens on May 14 and runs to May 25.
