RIDE ALONG RIDES TO VICTORY ON SUPER BOWL WEEKEND

February 4, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

With the Super Bowl and preparations for it drawing the attention of most families over the weekend, folks who still insisted on going to the movies got along with Ride Along and a sing-along — a new version of Disney’s Frozen. On the other hand, two newcomers, That Awkward Moment and Labor Day, had something in common with the Denver Broncos — an inability to score. Ride Along dropped about 44 percent to $12.04 million and Frozen, with the sing-along-with-the bouncing-snowflake element added, just 2 percent to $8.9 million. The latter film has now taken in just under $360 million domestically. It edged out That Awkward Moment, which opened with $8.7 million. Labor Day, the only other film debuting this weekend, tanked with just $5.2 million. All of the top ten movies together earned just $70.1 million, down 20 percent from a year ago.
