A British TV interviewer has come down hard on director Spike Jonze after engaging in what was clearly an uncomfortable session with him for the BBC talk show Newsnight. During the interview, Emily Maitlis attempted to explore whether Jonze had produced the screenplay for the critically acclaimed film Her because of his own fears about the future of technology. But the director appeared to turn the tables on the interviewer, asking about her emotional reaction to the film. Following the interview, Maitlis tweeted, “Ok. Now I can tell you what I thought of #her [the movie]. Sad, male fetish fantasy of disembodied female who does his bidding. … Like Lost in Translation for mood but nowhere near as good.” Maitlis also retweeted comments from some of her fans, including one who wrote, “Over-precious arse. Happy to get PR, then surprised focus on obvious conceit of the film.”
