DISNEY WITHDRAWS SUPPORT FROM BOY SCOUTS OVER ANTI-GAY POLICY

The Walt Disney Co., already under attack from some anti-gay conservatives and church groups for sanctioning the unofficial “Gay Days and Disney World,” will no doubt find itself under increased criticism from such groups following reports that it will cut funding to the Boy Scouts of America beginning next year because of the Scouts’ policy to bar gay adult leaders within the organization. On Sunday, the Scouts organization said it was disappointed by the decision, “because it will impact our ability to serve kids.” While the Scouts lifted its ban on gay youth last year, it continued to ban adult gay troop leaders, a decision that is being protested by members of Scouts for Equality. Pascal Tessier, a 17-year-old Scout in Maryland, announced after achieving the rank of Eagle Scout last month that on his 18th birthday, “I’m planning on applying to be an adult leader for the Boy Scouts so that we push the issue.”
