In what was generally regarded as a warning to other infomercial hucksters, a federal judge on Monday slapped TV pitchman Kevin Trudeau with a 10-year prison sentence for cheating hundreds of thousands of consumers out of $30 each for his book, The Weight Loss Cure ‘They’ Don’t Want You to Know About. In his ruling, Judge Ronld Guzman slammed Trudeau of steadfastly attempting to cheat others. In November he was convicted of defying a 2004 court order not to run the phony ads about his book. As it turned out, Trudeau continued to air the infomercials — more than 32,000 times. No sooner had the sentence been handed down than a notice appeared on Trudeau’s Facebook wall stating, “We need to appeal!! Please help Kevin…any contribution amount will help.”
