OSCAR WINS TRIGGER RISE IN PIRACY

On Monday, the day after the Oscars, the number of people downloading 12 Years a Slave via BitTorrent sites tripled and the number downloading Gravity doubled (Gravity was released on DVD and Blu-ray last week.), TorrentFreak.com, which tracks BitTorrent usage, reported on Tuesday. The surge in illegal downloads began shortly after the Oscars telecast concluded, the website noted. While 12 Years a Slave was already the most-pirated movie, generating nearly 35,000 downloads a day, that number rose to more than 100,000 on Monday, TorrentFreak indicated. The movie was released on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday.
