MARCH MADNESS COMES TO AN END — WITH LOWER RATINGS

April 8, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Two of television’s highest-rated shows, NBC’s The Voice and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars were no match for the NCAA Tournament Final, the March Madness finale, on Monday night. CBS’s coverage of the basketball match between the Connecticut Huskies and the Kentucky Wildcats was viewed by 17.79 million viewers, according to preliminary ratings released early today (Tuesday) by Nielsen Research. That figure was off sharply from the more than 23 million who tuned in a year ago (and set a ratings record for an NCAA final). By contrast, The Voice and DWTS, which competed against the basketball contest in their second hours Monday night, averaged 11.76 million and 13.87 million respectively, season lows for both programs.
