SPIDER-MAN AMAZES AT OVERSEAS BOX OFFICE

Overseas, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 expanded into 42 markets, where it collected $67.2 million. In just 14 overseas markets over the Easter weekend it collected $47 million. It has yet to open in several key countries, including China, Brazil and France, where it debuts next weekend (as it does in the U.S. and Canada). The film’s total has now climbed to $132 million. The Los Angeles Times observed today (Monday) that given its current pace, “the sequel is on track to far exceed the $490 million the original grossed overseas in 2012.” Such a result would run counter to the predictions of many analysts who had expected the film to fall far short of its predecessors in the Marvel franchise.
