WILL STEPHANOPOULOS PULL OUT OF ABC?

Yet another report is claiming that George Stephanopoulos and ABC execs are at an impasse in negotiations on a new contract. RadarOnline is reporting that Stephanopoulos is insisting on a guarantee that he would be named Diane Sawyer’s replacement when and if she decides to step down as co-host of ABC’s World News. The website quotes an unnamed ABC News insider as saying that ABC News execs have dug in and are refusing to agree to Stephanopoulos’s demands — principally, according to Radar Online, because Sawyer is pushing hard to convince ABC execs to put weekend anchor David Muir at the head of the line to replace her. A source told RadarOnline: “George has made no secret that he no longer wants to do morning television. … His strengths are doing hard news, and [he] has been extremely successful as the host of the ABC’s Sunday morning show, This Week. However, viewers also love George on GMA, and the news division doesn’t want to rock the boat with replacing him on the show. A huge portion of George’s contract talks will involve guarantees that he be the heir apparent to replace Diane.”
