LARRY WILMORE REACTS TO BEING NAMED TO REPLACE COLBERT

Larry Wilmore, who was named on Friday as host of The Minority Report on Comedy Central, has told the New York Times that his “mouth hit the floor” when Jon Stewart called him into his office to offer him the late-night program, replacing Stephen Colbert’s show. Stewart himself told the newspaper that the reason he figured Wilmore would be ideal for the job was that he had previously worked as a producer on NBC’s The Office. “These productions need a person who has the chops to handle that end of it,” Stewart said. Wilmore remarked that he “couldn’t believe [the offer] came from Disney, of all places.” Disney, which owns ABC, has long been regarded — arguably — as a conservative organization and has been accused in the past of racial and gender discrimination. Wilmore added, however, “But then I thought: I guess Mickey Mouse is black, when you think about it.”
