NEIL PATRICK HARRIS WAS FIRST CHOICE TO REPLACE LETTERMAN

It turns out that Neil Patrick Harris and not Stephen Colbert was CBS President Les Moonves first choice to replace David Letterman as host of The Late Show.” In an appearance on Howard Stern’s radio show on Wednesday Harris acknowledged that he had met with Moonves and CBS Entertainment chief Nina Tassler about taking over the show. But Harris told Stern that he thought he “would get bored of the repetition fast, and that the structure of it is so set, that I don’t have any interest in doing monologue, commercial, sketch, guest, guest, guest, musical act, good night.” Harris said that what he would really like to do is a weekly old-time variety show. But when he pitched that idea to the CBS execs, he found no takers.
