Marking the first major multiyear co-production deal between a U.S. studio and a Mexican broadcaster, Sony Pictures Television has signed an agreement to produce a whopping 840 hours of programming for Mexico’s largest network, Televisa, over the next five years. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but published reports said that the programs will be carried in the U.S. on the Univision network as well as other Latin American countries. According to the reports, the studio will produce 12 dramatic series that will be shown in Mexico before being distributed elsewhere. “We are looking forward to producing a variety of high-calibre prime time series that are fresh and relevant to our Latin American viewers and also have global appeal,” said Angelica Guerra, senior vice-president and managing director of production for SPT.
