WILL LATEST X-MEN MOVIE PASS $100 MILLION AT BOX OFFICE?

Another not-quite-summer weekend and another round of speculation about whether the latest superhero movie will produce record ticket sales. Tracking suggests that X-Men: Days of Future Past, which opens in select theaters for a preview screening tonight (Thursday), will pass $100 million at the box office, thereby surpassing Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which, with $95 million, is currently the biggest opener of the year. The film is also scheduled to open in most major international markets this weekend. The only other film opening wide this weekend is Blended, which unites Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore for the third time. Some analysts are predicting that after last year’s hit, Grown-Ups 2, which opened with $44 million in 2012, Blended could push Sandler movies back into the abyss they were in in 2012, when That’s My Boy opened with $13.5 million.
