For Hollywood, it’s bad enough that movie studios are increasingly taking advantage of tax incentives being offered by several overseas companies and filming abroad. But over the weekend, Sony announced that its digital special effects company, Sony Pictures Imageworks, will be moving from Culver City to Vancouver. The studio is reportedly taking advantage of 50-percent tax incentives. The company is also hiring away Mark Breakspear and Shauna Bryan, former execs at Method Studios in Vancouver, who have worked on several films with strong CGI elements in them including The Amazing Spider Man-2 and the latest Tom Cruise sci-fi action film Edge of Tomorrow.. Randy Lake, who heads digital production for Sony, described Vancouver as “world class.”
