ESPN SETS ANOTHER WORLD CUP RATINGS RECORD

July 11, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

World Cup ratings records continue to fall. ESPN’s coverage of Wednesday’s Netherlands vs. Argentina semifinal match produced the highest ratings ever for a World Cup semifinal match in the U.S., averaging 6.8 million viewers. The previous record had been set only a day earlier when the match between Brazil and Germany drew 6.6 million viewers. ESPN said late Thursday that its World Cup coverage through 62 matches has averaged 4.3 million viewers — a 43-percent increase over its coverage in 2010 and a 108 percent increase over its coverage in 2006. In addition, it said, its Watch ESPN streaming coverage established new highs for a non-U.S. team soccer match, as 2.4 million unique viewers watched Wednesday’s Netherlands vs. Argentina semifinal.
