WORLD CUP UBER ALLES ON GERMAN TV

July 9, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Germany’s devastating 7-1 victory over Brazil in the World Cup semi-finals was watched by an average of 32.57 million people in Germany on Tuesday, representing 87.9 percent of the the country’s TV population. (The figure does not include out-of-home viewers, such as those who watched the telecast in bars.) The result is all the more astonishing given the fact that the contest didn’t begin until 10:00 p.m. German time. The match set other records as well. It was the highest-scoring semi-final match in the 84-year history of the World Cup and produced the biggest-ever winning margin. And it produced the most tweets ever for a sports contest — 35.6 million, far surpassing the 24.9 million for this year’s Super Bowl.
