According to a study by Asia consultancy group Sycamore Research and Marketing, nearly three-quarters of Taiwanese Internet users have admitted engaging in movie and/or music piracy. Of these, however, 81 percent agree that piracy is wrong. The research, cited in today’s (Thursday) edition of the British trade publication Screen Daily, found that 67 percent of respondents acknowledged that government should be doing more to halt piracy and that courts should shut down websites that offer pirated meterial. Ninety percent of the pirates admitted that the number-one reason that they download bootlegged content was "because it’s free." But 83 percent said they also did so because they "want to get it as soon as possible," and 59 percent said that they "look for a movie legally online first" but will pirate it if they can’t find it.
