As if Turner Broadcasting channels didn’t have enough worries over falling audiences, exiting advertisers, and brutal critics — all of which has resulted in staff cutbacks and other retrenchments — it now must do battle with one of its principal carriers. The Dish satellite TV service on Monday shut down Turner’s channels, including CNN, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, CNN en Español, HLN, truTV and Turner Classic Movies. (Two other Turner channels, TBS and TNT are covered by a separate contract and were not affected by the blackout.) Dish said that it had been unable to reach an agreement on a new contract with Turner but that it remains "committed to reaching an agreement that promptly returns this content to Dish’s programming lineup." For its part, Turner said that it was "unfortunate that Dish is once again operating in a disruptive manner that takes away networks and programming from their customers."
